Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid)

Augmentin uses:
- Lower respiratory tract infections - tracheobronchitis, bronchitis,
pneumonia.
- Otitis media (middle ear infection)
- Sinusitis
- Skin and skin structure infections - cellulitis (infection of the
dermis and subcutaneous tissue), erysipelas (superficial form of cellulitis),
folliculitis (inflammation of the hair follicles, if the infection
of the follicle is deeper and involves more follicles, it moves into
the furuncle and carbuncle), furuncles, carbuncles, abscesses, impetigo
(large vessicles or honey-crusted sores), infected ulcers and infected
burns and other.
- Urinary tract infections (UTI) - infections of thr urinary tract
(kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra)
Dosage
Usual dosage range:
- Infants <3 months: 30 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours using
the 125 mg/5 mL suspension
- Children >=3 months and <40 kg: 20-90 mg/kg/day divided
every 8-12 hours
- Children >40 kg and Adults: 250-500 mg every 8 hours or
875 mg every 12 hours
For children >=3 months and <40 kg
- Lower respiratory tract infections, severe infections, sinusitis:
45 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours or 40 mg/kg/day divided every
8 hours
- Mild-to-moderate infections: 25 mg/kg/day divided every 12
hours or 20 mg/kg/day divided every 8 hours
For children >=16 years and adults:
- Bite wounds (animal/human): 875 mg every 12 hours or 500
mg every 8 hours
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: 875 mg every 12 hours
or 500 mg every 8 hours
- Erysipelas: 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours
- Pneumonia (Aspiration): 875 mg every 12 hours
- Pyelonephritis (acute, uncomplicated): 875 mg every 12 hours
or 500 mg every 8 hours
- Skin abscess: 875 mg every 12 hours
